How to Calculate Real Taxi Driver Profit
A simple framework for comparing ride revenue with fuel, fees and operating costs.
1. Track total ride revenue
Record gross earnings for each shift or day. Keep tips and bonuses separate if the platforms report them separately.
2. Subtract platform fees
Check whether the reported payout already excludes commission. Avoid subtracting the same commission twice.
3. Record vehicle operating costs
Include fuel or charging, parking, cleaning, maintenance and other work-related costs. Some costs occur monthly rather than per shift.
4. Allocate fixed costs
For a monthly estimate, allocate insurance, leasing and other fixed costs across the relevant period. Example: €300 monthly fixed costs over 20 working days is €15 per working day.
5. Compare net operating result
Example: €180 revenue − €30 platform fees − €25 fuel − €15 allocated fixed costs = €110 before taxes and any uncounted expenses. This is not take-home pay.
6. Review earnings per hour
Divide the operating result by working hours, including relevant waiting time, to compare different shifts fairly.
TaxiLog helps drivers track earnings and costs. Figures should be checked against actual platform statements and tax rules.
